Tiffany G. Townsend, PhD

I became a psychologist because I believe people are more than their struggles, and that with the right support, real change is possible. For more than 25 years, I have worked with individuals and families navigating some of life's most difficult moments. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University and completed my predoctoral internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where I provided trauma-informed psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. That early training shaped the clinician I am today; someone who looks past presenting symptoms to understand people holistically.

My primary modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, integrated with other evidence-based approaches within a client-centered framework. Our work together is structured and goal-oriented, but shaped by your history, your strengths, and what matters most to you. I am deeply committed to culturally responsive care, recognizing that the communities we come from, the identities we hold, and the systems we navigate all shape our wellbeing. My work is particularly focused on adults navigating chronic stress, burnout, relationships, trauma, caregiving, and major life transitions. I have particular experience supporting women and professionals who carry significant responsibilities in their work, families, and communities. I also have extensive experience working with people of color and with therapists, psychologists, healthcare providers, and other helping professionals who are accustomed to being the ones others rely on.

Beyond clinical work, I have spent decades in leadership roles advancing equity and organizational change across medical, educational, and professional settings, including faculty appointments at Georgetown University Medical Center and Penn State University and senior leadership at the American Psychological Association. I am also President of CORE Perspectives LLC, an organizational change consulting firm where I bring psychological science to the challenges organizations and leaders face in creating healthier, more effective workplaces. My work at the intersection of psychology, equity, and well-being also informs my book, Weathering the Storm: Navigating the Anti-Social Justice Wave, a guide for building resilience in the face of opposition to equity and inclusion. In addition, I have developed evidence-based CBT programs for the Calm Health app, translating psychological science into accessible interventions that can reach people beyond the therapy room.

CORE Integrative Psychological Services was founded on a simple conviction: meaningful change isn't surface-level. My work goes to the core of the experiences, beliefs, and patterns that keep you feeling stuck, so that we can create lasting change.
